Wow, everyone… time is absolutely flying! The Kickstarter for our trailer is just
around the corner and will go live July 12 – August 11, 2019!!!
I can’t believe we’re this close to our first major milestone. It’s been an incredible
journey, so far. From concepts at the gaming table and the (very!) rough drafts of
our pilot script to gathering a cadre of talented artists and incorporating a business
to planning and launching an ambitious Kickstarter campaign; I am in absolute awe
of the support we’ve received from the community.
As we move into the final stages before putting it all out there, I wanted to reach
out and share with you why I am so passionate about this project.
If you’ve ever played a game, read a book, or watched a TV show or film that
resonated do deeply that you couldn’t bear for it to end, then you and I have
something in common. You imagine the ongoing story for these characters you
love. You seek to find more from the story, the author, and even the genre. You
find anyone and everyone who shares your passion. And, of course, you make it a
point to share with those who haven’t discovered what you’ve found, because you
just know that they will love it just like you do.
One of these stories for me was the journey that followed my introduction to the
fantasy cyberpunk genre. I was fortunate to be invited to play in an RPG that
ultimately became the foundation for my passion project. The GM was an
established writer—and far more talented than I expected from someone I would
be playing a ‘game’ with. I fell in love with his world, his story, and his characters.
As an actress, I was immersed in my own character and experiencing the story first
hand, as it unfolded. The world became tangible and I found that the story no
longer fit within the constraints of a gaming table. I wanted it brighter, darker,
louder—I wanted it to be real.
One night, I dreamed that we had created a series from our story. When I woke up,
I dismissed it as a passing fancy, an obvious but impractical desire. Of course,
that’s what any dream is and we see people attain theirs every day. With that
simple truth, I allowed a dream to change my world.
I created Rem Alternis Productions, Inc. in the fall of 2018. My ‘Clark Kent’ day job
is in management—so that part of it was familiar ground—but I had no idea how to
start a business from the ground up. Fortunately, I live in a big city, surrounded by
talented and diverse people. When I didn’t know what to do, it became a matter of
finding someone who did. I knew a lawyer who walked me through the nuances of
business startup. A web-developer I knew pieced together the beginnings of a
At GenCon 2018, I shared my excitement with everyone I met and quickly found
others who wanted to see my dream become reality. To keep track, I started an
email list—the beginnings of the Rem Alternis community. I reached out after
GenCon whenever I established a legitimate need or encountered a new problem
that I couldn’t tackle alone. The response was overwhelming and soon I had a
social media and Kickstarter team, writers, podcasters, artists, prosthetics experts,
a makeup artist, graphic artists, an accountant…I had a film company!
Nearly a year later and we have pushed our creative monstrosity forward to this
point. A friend once said to me, “You are getting as far as you are on sheer
Hell, if I’ve got advantage on my Charisma rolls, I’ll take it!
I can’t begin to count the hours my team and I have put into this; nights and
weekends—spare moments at work. At times it feels nearly overwhelming, but
everyone’s excitement has matched mine and it has always been FUN. We’ve
always known what our goals are. We’ve known what we want to build. We’ve
also known that the foundation is pure passion. To this point, we’ve relied on
ourselves to conquer the startup hurdles; we’ve reached deep into our own
pockets. We’ve invested ‘us’. I can never repay that—it’s priceless, immeasurable
and intangible—except to see this through.
Which means we’re just getting started…
So with all of that, here’s the point:
Our Kickstarter Campaign. This is what we’ve been working towards. We need to
produce a 3-5 minute trailer for our series “Chicago Shadows”. This trailer will
showcase the production quality of our creative team and prove that we have what
it takes to bring a fantasy cyberpunk story to life! It will also provide a quantitative
measure of our potential audience. Together, they form the proof of concept for the
feasibility of a successful pilot episode and ultimately a fully realized series.
Our Kickstarter goal is to raise $15,000 to cover all of the costs of filming, make-
up, costumes, effects, editing, and everything else involved in producing a high
quality film. This is a lofty goal, but we feel it is absolutely within reach. All we
That’s where each of you come in. If you’ve read this far, it’s likely you would love
to see this project come to life and maybe even be a part of it! We hope so,
because we absolutely need you if we’re going to make it happen. Please like,
follow, share, retweet, talk about, post, comment—do everything you can think of
to show your support and enthusiasm leading up to and during the Kickstarter
The further our reach, the more likely our chances for success! Remember,
Kickstarter is all or nothing. If we can’t reach $15K, then it all fades away. We’re
close to making it real, so please help us make the push!
If we succeed, it’s because of you.
Thank you all for your overwhelming support!
